On-The-Job-Training

On-the-job training (OJT) is provided by the employer at the employer's expense. Formal OJT plans are one part of a registered apprenticeship program that must meet a number of formal requirements. On-the-job training may also be informal, but should in any case be governed by plans that include the subjects to be covered, the number of hours, the estimated completion date, the method by which training will be evaluated, and the rates of pay that will be observed. The primary source to identify which occupations make use of on–the–job training–short, moderate, or long term–is BLS through its several publications. OJT related to registered apprenticeship programs may be identified through state apprenticeship offices or councils.
