Title: It's Time to Tell the Kids: If You Don't Do Well in High School, You Won't Do Well in College (or on the Job)
Date: 2004
Publisher:
American Federation of Teachers (AFT)
Description:
Open admissions policies allow more students to go to college. However, many are not prepared to do the work when they arrive because they did not work hard in high school. The author argues that kids are not getting the message that high school work counts. He urges parents, teachers, administrators and counselors to stress to students that their high school career--in terms of courses taken, effort put in, and grades attained--greatly affects their chances of graduating from college.
