Title: State of the South 2004: Fifty Years After Brown v. Board of Education
Date: 2004
Today's students need higher levels of skills and education to get and keep good jobs, but many southern youth (especially hispanics and african-americans) are in substandard schools that will not prepare them for these jobs. The report "calls on the region to ensure integrated, equitable, effective public education to equip our youth for the economic, social, and civic challenges of the next 50 years" and makes specific recommendations for doing so.
