Title: Making High Schools Better
Date: 2004
Overview of high school practices in Singapore, Denmark and Illinois that illustrates different paths to success. Singapore assigns its best teachers to the lowest performing students, and emphasizes the link between effort and academic success. Denmark offers high school students multiple tracks to a diploma, with academic rigor a feature of each path, including the vocational path. Illinois surveys students to measure engagement, and uses that information to make changes that will increase engagement and academic success.
