Title: Parent and Student Voices on the First Year of the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program
Date: 2005
Georgetown University
Georgetown researchers convened a series of focus groups with parents and students participating in the 1st year of the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, which allowed low-income students to attend private schools. In this report stemming from the focus group meetings, researchers note that parents largely valued the opportunity, particularly the “higher academic standards, improved safety, increased discipline, greater parental involvement and access to a religious and values-based environment.? The report is available in both English and Spanish.
