Program Goals and Emphasis

The Idaho CRN’s primary goal is to use the Career Information System (CIS) to deliver career information to parents, students and teachers in order to link education to the world of work.

Economic and Environmental Profile

“The two Idahos� refers to the differences between urban and rural areas in the state, which vary in size of economic sectors. Key industries are manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, food products, lumber, mining and technology. Following government, the largest employment is in retail trade and professional and business services. Gains in the business and education and health services sectors led recent job growth.

The January 2006 unemployment rate was 4.1%, as compared to 4.0% in April 2005.

State Career Resource Activities

Highlighted Activities

• Career information on the Internet at eCIS is the primary information resource used for career exploration and planning. New this year is the eCIS opening Web page designed specifically for secondary students. There are also 101 on-line career guidance curriculum units for counselors so they can work cooperatively with participating teachers to deliver instructional units to students.

• To assist teachers, on-line learning activities are provided relating to all aspects of career development. They can be sorted by subject matter, career development competency and Idaho Achievement Standards needed for graduation in Idaho.

• Economic sectors of “the two Idahos� are described in the Profile of Rural Idaho, published by the Idaho Department of Commerce & Labor.
