The primary focus of Oregon’s Partnership for Occupational and Career Information is to ensure that quality, up-to-date career information is available to all those who need it in order to make informed decisions and avoid duplication efforts among agencies. Emphasis has been placed not only on quality career information for students, but also on the unemployed looking for retraining and on the use of skills information to match individuals to appropriate career fields.

After three months of strong job growth, employment grew slowly in April 2005. Lumber and computer goods lead the manufacturing sector. Health, business, social, and professional services are expected to expand according to employment projections for 2002-2012. Professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing added the most jobs since 2003.
The January 2006 unemployment rate was 5.3%, as compared to 6.5% in April 2005.

Highlighted Activities
• The Oregon CRN produced and distributed 190,000 CAREERS tabloids in English and Spanish. The tabloids include information on over 300 careers and include information on training and education requirements and school programs. The resource shows the benefits of completing secondary education, and an accompanying Teacher’s Guide to help teachers get students to read and use CAREERS.
• Oregon is responding to the demand for career resources in Spanish by developing a Web site which will eventually contain Spanish language brochures, handouts, PowerPoints and other materials.
