Louisiana’s state CRN goals and program emphases are: 1) provide teachers, students and parents resources that assist with career exploration and educational opportunities; 2) provide teachers and counselors with labor market information and training in the use of Louisiana Occupational Information System (LOIS) and the Louisiana Integrated Skills Assessment (LISA).
The main elements of the Louisiana economy are the production of minerals, tourism, forestry, pulp and paper, agriculture and food processing, commercial fishing, shipping and international trade, and general manufacturing. Two CRN related initiatives include the implementation of industry-based certification programs in high schools and colleges and the implementation of WorkKeys.
The April 2005 unemployment rate was 5.1%, as compared to 5.7% in April 2004.
