Career Resource Network State Grant

Program Goals and Emphasis

The Puerto Rico CRN supports and expands the career guidance academic counseling programs in schools to increase children’s understanding of work and self, decision-making and academic and career planning by providing products and services of career information available to counselors, teachers, parents and students.

Economic and Environmental Profile

Key industries include pharmaceuticals, electronics, apparel, food products and tourism. A diverse industrial sector has far surpassed agriculture as the key source of economic activity and income. U.S. firms have invested heavily in Puerto Rico since the 1950s, in part due to tax incentives and duty-free access to the mainland.

The January 2006 unemployment rate was 11.6%, as compared to 11.2% in April 2005.
